However, sometimes students have to change their institutions abruptly due to job transfer of their parents, relocation, dropping out or any other reason. Format for writing an application for TC
There are generally two types of letters: formal & informal. The application for the TC will be written in a formal format. Below are the components of the application for TC:
- Sender’s address: In this case the present address of the parents who are applying for their ward’s Transfer Certificate
- Date: The date on which the parents are drafting the letter
- Receiver’s designation with address: You have to address the application to the principal or any equivalent authority depending upon the institution. Then, write down the address of the institute.
- Salutation: It is a formal greeting for the receiver.
- Subject: It denotes the purpose of the letter, here it is a request for TC
- Body of the letter: This comprises the main textual matter of the application. You will be mentioning the reason for obtaining TC, the urgency of the matter and shed light on the context of the matter.
- Complimentary closing: End the body with a complimentary greeting
- Name of the sender: Here, the parent will provide their name and undersign the document.

What should I do if I lost my transfer certificate?
If you lost your transfer certificate, you will have to visit your nearest police station and file an FIR. The police station will provide you with a copy of the FIR. Submit this to your school/college and pay the required fee assigned by the institution and you will be issued a new TC.
What is the difference between TC and a school leaving certificate?
There is no difference between TC and a school leaving certificate. The terms are often used interchangeably.
Can I take admission to a Master’s Program without TC?
No, you cannot take admission to a Master’s Program without submitting the original Transfer certificate. The concerned University can extend the time for submission of TC at most. However, if the TC is not provided within the set deadline, then the student’s candidature can be cancelled.
