Ganga Dussehra 2022: Ganga Dussehra also known as Gangavatran is a Hindu festival celebrating the descent of the holy river Ganga from heaven on earth on this day. The festival takes place on the 10th day waxing moon (Shukla Paksha) of the Hindu calendar month Jyeshtha. The celebration of the festival lasts ten days, including the nine days preceding this holy day.

It is said that whoever takes a dip into the Ganga river all their sins are washed away and people donate watermelon, lemon, mango, and fan to the needy ones. History of Ganga Dussehra

According to Hindu mythology, it is believed that to give salvation to his ancestors भागीरथ worshipped Goddess Ganga and after his intense dedication she decided to descend on earth leaving heaven.
