Nupur Sharma Political Career
When a student, Nupur joined the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad ABVP. She was a part of the student wing of the Sangh Parivar. Her major political achievements began when she won the presidentship of the Delhi University student union in 2008. It was a historical victory as ABVP never won in the last eight years. After returning from London, she became an active worker at the Bharatiya Janata party in 2011. She was included in Delhi BJP‘s working committee in 2013. At the young age of 30, she contested against Arvind Kejriwal in the 2015 Delhi legislative assembly elections. She represented Bharatiya Janata party while Kejriwal was the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party. She, however, lost the elections. It was later that she was appointed as the official spokesperson for the Delhi unit of the BJP. In 2020 she gained the office as national spokesperson of the BJP. She is considered to be a youth political figure who is energetic and active along with her unflinching demeanor.

Nupur comes from a family of civil servants and businessmen. She has a sister and is presently unmarried. Her father‘s name is Vinay Sharma and her family is Brahmin by caste. The name of your mother is unknown. However, her maternal home is in Dehradun. Nupur belongs to a Hindu family and she is often seen supporting and defending her religion on a national level.

On 26 May 2022, Nupur Sharma attended the Gyan Vapi debate. The topic of the Times now television show was to discuss the legal case against the Gyan Vapi mosque. She was allegedly responding to the trolls and unnecessary remarks on Hindu gods and idol “Shivlinga” when she made an uncalled statement against the Islamic Prophet Muhammed. A video clip of her comments was made viral by Mohammad Zubair who is the co-founder of Alt News. In the video, she was seen commenting upon the age of the Prophet’s third wife Ayesha, and the consummation of their marriage. Apparently, she was quoting the Islamic texts and her “heavily edited and selected video” did not receive a positive reception from Indian Muslims and Islamic Nations.
Police FIR was registered against her in Mumbai and later, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen leader, Owaisi also registered a complaint against her. Her alleged hate speech soon received international attention when Islamic nations started condemning India for the same. The Gulf Cooperation Council and Turkey’s social media were filled with trends against Nupur. On 5 June 2022, the party suspended her, and later, Sharma withdrew her remarks by justifying her comments and also registering an apology. Since then, she has been receiving a lot of criticism and hate. She is being threatened for life and Indian Muslims are protesting against her. Certain Indian citizens are also seen supporting her since they consider that she was defending and responding to the insults toward Hindu God Shiva. Still, many people are requesting her arrest and the extent of the protest has risen to a point where the death penalty is being requested for her.
