Importance of CITES and History
The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora was accepted by the United Nations in 1973. It marks the beginning of the era of repaying the debts to nature and doing little towards its betterment. Several species were proceeding extinct due to global warming and the illegal trafficking of natural fauna and flora. Now, the CITES controls sustainable trading such that the endangered plants and animals are unaffected.

Every year, CITES provides almost one million legal permits for wildlife trade through research and investigation. The system assists humans to profit from natural resources without disturbing the ecosystem. Wild fauna and flora furnish us with food, edible products, leather, timber for musical instruments, furniture- wood, souvenirs, maquillage, medical drugs and antidotes. The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora ensures the delivery of such products in a measured and traceable quantity.
World Wildlife Day 2023: Theme
This year’s theme for World Wildlife Day is “Partnerships for wildlife conservation,” aiming to raise awareness about the global biodiversity crises. Statistically, 97% of the world’s tigers have been lost since the 1900s. Therefore, World Wildlife Day 2023 is a wake-up call to the fight against animal cruelty and the human-induced decline of various wild species. World Wildlife Day 2023: The theme of wildlife conservation is a reminder that more than one million categories of wildlife are endangered. Plants like cacti, oak trees and seaweeds are currently under threat, including giraffes and parrots too. Strange right?
The cause is supposedly human ignorance and the selfish human nature of consuming and paying back only a little. 20% of the human population presently depends on 50,000 wild animals and plants for basic needs. Partnerships for wildlife conservation prompt us to be thankful for the benefits we receive from biodiverse nature.
